AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? workshop #1

Sun Salutations - $25

September 23, 2017 - 9:30-11:30 am

Sun Salutations are a microcosm of the asana practice as a whole in that they contain standing postures, forward bends, a backbend, a strength move and an inversion. When done skillfully, they can become hypnotically meditative, as you float from pose to pose to the rhythm of your breath. This workshop will focus on the poses that make up Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A) as well as the transitions between them. We will take turns demonstrating and practicing the poses and transitions, learning how to incorporate modifications and variations that work best for your own body. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here!

AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? workshop #2

standing poses - $25

November 11, 2017 - 9:30-11:30 am

Standing Poses are the building blocks of a yoga asana practice and are the key to accessing more advanced postures in yoga. This workshop will help you clean up your alignment as we take turns demonstrating and practicing basic standing poses like Virabhadrasana B (Warrior 2), Trikonasa (Triangle), Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose) and more. As in all these workshops, you'll learn how to incorporate the modifications and variations that work best for your own unique body. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here!

AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? workshop #3

core stability and integration - $25

January 13, 2018 - 9:30-11:30 am

The core is a group of muscles that work together to provide stability in the low back and pelvic regions. Having core strength provides greater freedom and ease of movement in the limbs and helps us to find a balance between Sthira and Sukha (effort and ease). Learn how to strengthen and incorporate these muscles with optimal alignment for your own body and watch your practice take off! A great complement to IOY's 30-Day Yoga + Plank Challenge! Space is limited. Reserve your spot here!

AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? workshop #4

forward bends - $25

March 10, 2018 - 9:30-11:30 am

To bend forward means to flex the spine, which happens every time you move your chest toward your thighs (and visa versa). Forward bends create a stretch in the posterior (back) structures of the body from head to heels and, when done optimally, bring a soothing quality to the nervous system, calming the mind and cooling the body. In this workshop we'll take turns demonstrating supine, standing and seated forward bends, learning which variations are optimal for you (and perhaps unlearning the technique demonstrated here by Marilyn). Space is limited. Reserve your spot here!

AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? workshop #5

Backbends (aka front body openers) - $25

May 12, 2018 - 9:30-11:30 am

Backbends are known as heart openers. They stretch anterior (front) structures of the body such as the chest, abdomen, hips and thighs but, just as importantly, they strengthen the back body. In this workshop, you will learn how to open the front body and strengthen the back body without compromising the low back so that you feel strong, spacious and free. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here!

Twists rotate the spine and strengthen and stretch the muscles of the trunk. This helps to restore and retain the spine’s natural range of motion, which tends to decrease as we age. They stimulate circulation, creating heat and releasing tension in the muscles of the spine, abdomen and rib cage which helps other systems in the body (such as digestion and elimination) work more effectively. In this workshop we will explore passive and active twists in ways that specifically suit our own unique bodies. Space is limited. Reserve your spot here! (Although no need to reserve if you can do Baddha Pavritta Ardha Chandrasana (Bound Twisted Half Moon Pose) like the guy here. You can just teach the class!)
