What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I stumbled into my first yoga class at UMass Boston fitness center about seven years ago. I was a new mom, balancing college life, nursing school, and work, and was in need of some stress relief and a way to reconnect with myself.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

My self-centered intention for my practice is always to leave the mat feeling better than when I first came to my mat. My higher intention is to create more peace. There is a quote by Viktor Frankl: "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom." My intention is to always deepen that space and act with more intention, clarity and peace.

What is your favorite pose and why?

I don't have a favorite pose because it really depends on the day, how I feel and what I'm craving. Lately I've enjoyed eagle pose- it stretches shoulders and hips and incorporates balance - so it has a little bit of everything. It's impossible to have a favorite for me.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

My absolute favorite class at IOY is Wednesday morning Power Flow because the sequences are always creative and the class is fun.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Yoga has made me more aware and has given me a tool to manage stress. It works when I do. :)

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

My advisc for a beginning yoga student... show up, let go, breathe, and enjoy the journey.

What is your occupation?

I'm an RN currently employed by Riverside Walter Reed - medical surgical/telemetry floor.

What activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy spending time with my family, eating, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck?

I love living in the Nothern Neck because I love living close to my family and being able to see the stars at night.

Is there anything you want to add?

Thanks - Namaste.
