YOGI OF THE MONTH

April 2025 - Brian Erwin

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I started my practice in 2016.  Prior to that I relied upon jogging as my primary way of keeping in shape.  I found that years of jogging were taking a toll on my joints.  My chiropractor at that time recommended yoga as an alternative.  Additionally, my wife created Paddle On of Williamsburg in which she offered paddle yoga.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

Generally, my intention is to clear my mind and focus on the here and now.  My practice also provides me with the opportunity to send positive intentions to a family member or friend that is in need.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Lying twist pose (jathara parivartanasana). I hold a lot of tension in my lower back.  This pose seems to provide me with the most relief.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

Vinyasa Flow

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Yoga has taught me to embrace the present, to be more grateful for what I have, and has provided me with more patience.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Try all types of classes so you can explore what works for you.

What is your occupation?

I am a residential property manager which involves taking care of all systems related to home upkeep.

What activities do you enjoy?

Aside from yoga, home remodeling, paddle boarding, fishing, a good movie/series, and walking my dog.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

Access to the beautiful nature that surrounds us.
