What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

I started Yoga in January 2017 after reading in the local paper that Yoga for Healthy Aging was starting in White Stone.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

It is my hope to gain strength and flexibility and to improve my balance and stability.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Don’t laugh or think that I am lazy, but my favorite pose is the Savasana (Corpse Pose) because it releases any tension in my body after a practice. My second favorite is Vrksasana (Tree Pose)--one that I really need to work on for my balance.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

I have two favorites: Yoga for Healthy Aging and Breathe & Stretch.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

It forces me to work on concentration (mind work) along with flexibility, balance and deep breathing (body work). It relieves stress and makes life much more enjoyable.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Yoga has so many physical and mental benefits and Susan offers classes with different degrees of difficulty. Regardless of your age or fitness level, try it!  YOU CAN DO IT!

What is your occupation?

Teacher for 33 years--happily retired!

What activities do you enjoy?

Yoga (of course), quilting, gardening, traveling, hiking, and feeding my bluebirds and raccoon.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

The people are wonderful, and I love the peace and tranquility that the area offers.

Is there anything you want to add?

Yoga encourages transformation in the body.  Some of the poses may be foreign and sometimes difficult at first, but with practice the body learns how to take on a new shape. Thank you, Susan, for offering Insideout Yoga to us. You are an excellent teacher and you make our practice fun!
