YOGI OF THE MONTH
December 2016 - Susan RIchardson
What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?
I met Susan in 2000 and realized very quickly her enthusiasm for staying fit. When Susan began practicing yoga, she introduced me to it. Although I haven't always been consistent in my practice, I have done yoga off and on for about 10 years.
What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?
Mindfulness, returning to a state of thankfulness and gaining from the physical benefits of strength, flexibility and a tighter tush.
What is your favorite pose and why?
Triangle..I feel a lengthening of my whole body (my back actually pops) and a feeling of strength after completing this pose
What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?
Power Flow - I love that this class always presents challenges and how it balances strengthening, stretching and relaxation all in one.
How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?
I think I'm more appreciative of what my body can do (and can’t) and have gained a more introspective approach to everyday life.
What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?
Start with a good instructor, don’t compare yourself to others and in a short amount of time, you will feel a difference.
What is your occupation?
Marketing Outreach Specialist at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury.
What activities do you enjoy?
Cooking, eating, gardening and tying all three of those together with friends and family. And a sunset cruise on the sailboat is always a good thing.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck?
The mesmerizing view of sunlight on the Rappahannock River and the friendly and generous people who call the NN home.
Is there anything you want to add?
Thank you, Susan, for continually reminding us to go easy on ourselves, be grateful and be open to the infinite possibilities that surround us every day.
