YOGI OF THE MONTH

May 2024 - Pam Bickel

What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

My first experience with yoga was about 15 years ago.  I had a good friend who kept trying to get me to go to yoga, I told her it wasn’t for me.  I finally gave in and tried it, and I was hooked.  When I had a committed practice I was in the best shape of my life.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

My intentions today are to stay as fit as possible, to maintain balance and flexibility.

What is your favorite pose and why?

My favorite pose is downward dog, to me it is a relaxing pose, a time to catch my breath and stretch and breathe.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

The Slow Flow class is my favorite, it moves at a pace that is comfortable, while challenging my both balance and coordination.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

I have learned that practice and patience do payoff. In the beginning I was not good at a lot of poses but through practice, patience and perseverance I got better.  I am far from good, but getting better is an accomplishment.  I look forward to the classes and when I leave I’m always glad I made the commitment to go.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Just do it! Susan is a fantastic instructor, and you will always walk away feeling better than when you arrived.

What is your occupation?

Retired, previously a Customer Service Manager in the Electronic Industry.

What activities do you enjoy?

Quilting, gardening, boating. Being on the water is my happy place.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula?

The people are so welcoming, we are so close to the water, and we have everything we need and NOT in a big city.

Is there anything you want to add?

InsideOut Yoga is one of the many gems of the Northern Neck, Susan is an incredible instructor and all around great person.
