What first brought you to yoga and how long have you been practicing?

Betsy started yoga nearly 20 years ago out of curiosity and an attempt toward fitness. She started pestering Pete to try it for significant neck and shoulder pain that he was experiencing. He was a reluctant participant who really tried yoga just to shut Betsy up. However, within weeks he was feeling so much better, he was sold! (Betsy was thrilled to be right for once.) He's been practicing now for over 15 years.

What is/are your intention(s) for your yoga practice?

Pet's intention is to maintain core strength and flexibility as he ages. Betsy wants to clear her mind of thoughts and worries while strengthening the physical body.

What is your favorite pose and why?

Betsy's favorite pose is pigeon because it feels so good on the glutes, and half moon because it's energizing. Pete likes child's pose because he can relax better in that pose than most any other.

What is your favorite class at InsideOut Yoga?

We have only tried Slow Flow.

How has the practice of yoga influenced your life?

Betsy feels that the practice of yoga has allowed her to approach life in a more mindful way.

What advice would you have for a beginning yoga student?

Keep at it. It only gets better...and so will you.

What is your occupation?

Pete is a family physician. Betsy is a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

What activities do you enjoy?

We enjoy bicycle touring, sailing, travel and eating out.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Northern Neck?

We live on the Middle Peninsula and love sitting on the deck overlooking the water. People in this part of the world are so friendly!

Is there anything you want to add?

We think Susan is an awesome yoga instructor...and we like Ally too!
