The Power of Peace

"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." ~ Unknown

My student, Mary Ragland, shared this quote with me last month. I wound up quoting and practicing it daily the week of the election as I tried to make sense of it all. No matter where we stand on the political spectrum, I believe that we as yogis need to continue to promote peace beginning with our thoughts, then our words and then our actions.

Although often touted as peaceful, December can be a hectic, noisy month. Which (on the bright side) makes it a perfect month to practice peace!

Sometimes I find peace through stillness, other times through intense movement, other times by connecting with friends and family. More subtly, I find it by reaching for the higher thought, the wiser question. This mental shift often involves gratitude and asking, “How can I bring out the good in you?” vs “What do I get out of this?” From there I move forward.

What brings you peace? Can you set an intention this month to seek out moments that bring you and others peace? How might you move forward from there?
